For the first time in the Steve Kerr era, the Golden State Warriors didn’t make the playoffs with their championship core all healthy.
That wasn’t much of a surprise, as even though they finished the season on a high note, they still struggled with consistency all year long.
Facing off with the Sacramento Kings was also a big factor, as they had their games vs. them marked on their calendars after what transpired last season.
With that in mind, former NBA champion Paul Pierce talked about how this might be the end of the Warriors’ run.
In his latest appearance on “Undisputed,” the Boston Celtics legend stated that the Warriors are an old team, and they’re simply not a championship contender as currently constructed.
“The Warriors looked old, and as constructed right now, they are not at contender.”

He also pointed out the fact that the Kings ran them up and down the court, and they simply couldn’t keep up with their pace and athleticism.
The Warriors reportedly want to get out of the luxury tax, meaning they will most likely ask Klay Thompson to take a significant pay cut, and they are also likely to move on from Chris Paul.
They need to assess their roster and find ways to surround Stephen Curry with more talent.
This roster isn’t getting any younger, and their championship window keeps closing by the second.
Still, they might have one last run in them, but GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. will have to find a way to work around the salary cap to put together the kind of roster they need to get back to their winning ways.
