The Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors met in the semifinals of the 2023 NBA Playoffs, and have coincidentally begun to turn the corner at the same time during the 2023-24 NBA season.
Both the Lakers and Warriors have experienced up-and-down play during the regular season, but found their groove before the All-Star break.
Los Angeles and Golden State have been able to stay afloat thanks to their respective superstars, though the climb up the standings in the Western Conference is a difficult one.
Several teams atop the standings show no signs of slowing down, making it difficult for them to get out of the Play-In Tournament.
Although LeBron James and Stephen Curry clearly have gas left in the tank, it’s anyone’s guess how long they can keep winning at this level
With that in mind, Paul Pierce made a bold claim that this is the final year that the Lakers and Warriors will be able to make the Finals via All The Smoke.
“This is the last year the Lakers or Golden State have a chance to get to the Finals,” Pierce said. “This is the last year. After this, their run is over.”
This year might be the Lakers and Warriors last chance to make a run.

Pierce makes a valid point as teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves are young, hungry, and ready to compete for titles now.
Despite their relative inexperience in the postseason, the Thunder and Timberwolves are two teams that have the look of a perennial contender.
James and Curry can still compete with the best of them, but the clock is definitely ticking.
