The 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend is nearing it’s finale as the Friday and Saturday events are in the books.
Between the annual Celebrity All-Star Game, Skills Challenge, and 3-pointer Shooting Contest, it’s been a fun weekend for basketball fans.
However, the Slam Dunk Contest has waned in popularity in the past few years as the event doesn’t generate the same buzz as it has in years past.
This year, Mac McClung was able to repeat as the Slam Dunk champion after another electric performance on the stage.
McClung amazed with his high-flying acrobatics and creativity, though the fandom didn’t seem to be as excited as they have been in the past.
Paul Pierce has seen numerous dunk contests in his time and had a funny analogy to make via his personal Twitter account.
“The Dunk contest is like that Xgirl friend u keep going back to , thinking u can regain that spark u once had, at some point u just gotta let her go move on to something else,” Pierce tweeted.

Pierce’s comments are funny, but also have a lot of truth to them as the NBA has tried to hype the event up to no avail.
Between the game’s biggest stars repeatedly passing up the opportunity to showcase their stuff and the 3-Point Contest gaining popularity, the dunk contest is dying a slow death.
However, the annual All-Star Game is also struggling with the same problem as stars haven’t taken it seriously in years.
The league would like to see more participation from its high-profile players, but until that happens the All-Star Weekend will serve more as an afterthought.
