The San Antonio Spurs had never been happier about having a losing season.

Well, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch, as it also worked out perfectly for them when they got David Robinson and Tim Duncan.

But getting Victor Wembanyama gave them the most entertaining player to watch in today’s game, and even former players have been in awe of his skills.

After watching him play in the preseason, former NBA champion Paul Pierce went as far as to declare him a top-five skilled player in the league right now.

Pierce raved about all the things he’s shown in a small sample size, such as his ability to get the ball in traffic and dunk over everybody, his handles, his threat as a pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop player, a perennial lob threat, and his ability to knock down shots from the perimeter (via ClutchPoints and Showtime Basketball).

Paul Pierce: “Right now today, [Victor Wembanyama] is one of the top 5 skill players in the NBA.”

Kevin Garnett: “The Spurs should make the playoffs.”

Agree with KG and Pierce?

Notably, Kevin Garnett agreed with him, adding that people don’t know how unique and special you have to be to do all those things at 7-foot-5.

More than that, Garnett believes that Wembanyama doesn’t even know what he’s doing yet, and he’s mostly reacting out of pure instinct.

They compared him to the likes of Anthony Davis and Kevin Durant, and Garnett even stated that the Spurs should make the playoffs.

That could be somewhat of a stretch, as the Western Conference is too stacked with talent, and the Spurs are young.

Also, they’re likely going to take things easy with Wembanyama, spoon-feeding him and easing him into the game.
