The Los Angeles Lakers are playing some of their best basketball late in the season.
Then again, they’re not exactly what most people would call a championship-caliber team, not even with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
They should be favored to take down the Golden State Warriors in the Play-In Tournament, but that might be the end of the line for Darvin Ham’s team.
Should that be the case, former NBA star Paul Pierce believes the table would be set for LeBron to head back home.
Talking on Undisputed, he stated that if the Lakers flame out in the playoffs, they should strongly consider sending LeBron back to the Cleveland Cavaliers to get Donovan Mitchell in return (via NBA Central).
Paul Pierce says the Lakers and Cavs should consider a LeBron James for Donovan Mitchell trade

That way, the Cavs could take his firstborn, Bronny James, in the NBA Draft, and he could be back home to have his farewell tour alongside his son.
This makes sense on the surface, as Mitchell recently put the brakes on contract extension talks, and it’s been rumored that he’s not going to sign an extension in Cleveland.
The Cavs aren’t that far behind in contention, but they need to keep focusing on developing their young stars.
As for the Lakers, they’re going to exhaust all avenues to keep LeBron James until the end of his career.
