For a draft outcome as close to a sure thing as you get in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers’ selection of Bronny James at No. 55 is getting much scrutiny around the league.
The selection of James pairs the 19-year-old with his legendary father, LeBron, and creates a fascinating scenario with the NBA’s most high-profile franchise.
The elder James still has the ability to walk away from his contract, but who honestly believes this is even being considered now that he is set to be paired with his son in the lineup?
Former NBA great Paul Pierce is among those tuned in to this attention-demanding situation, and he told Undisputed that the James and James combination is “the most fascinating thing we’ve ever seen in sports.”

While that is certainly an exaggeration, the 2024-25 Lakers will be the focus of an outsized amount of media and fan attention.
Pierce noted that family connections are far from unusual in the league, and it is relatively common to see fathers who played in the NBA cheering on their sons.
But to have a father and son on the hardcourt at the same time – for the same team – this is truly unprecedented.
Bronny averaged under five points a game in his only season at USC, but the hope of course in LA is that he flourishes in this pairing with his future Hall of Fame father.
As LeBron enters his 22nd NBA season in search of another trophy for the mantle, this move may also rejuvenate a player with considerable talent left in the tank.
