The New Orleans Pelicans have struggled to make an impact in the NBA over the past few years despite having a core team built around Zion Williamson.

A key reason behind the team’s failure has been Williamson’s inability to stay healthy throughout the course of the regular season.

However, things are different for the organization this season, as they are currently one of the best teams in the Western Conference.

Speaking of which, the Pelicans are seemingly interested in further improving the roster around the NBA Trade Deadline by potentially parting ways with veteran Herbert Jones, as revealed via NBACentral on Twitter.

“The Pelicans are thought to be open to moving Herbert Jones. They’re high on Jones, but it’ll be difficult for the team to pay their stars, Jones and Trey Murphy,” the NBA analyst reported.

Herbert Jones was drafted as the 35th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans.

Since then, Jones has only improved his game, as he is averaging career-high numbers this season.

However, the Pelicans already have hefty salaries with the likes of Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and CJ McCollum on their payroll.

Keeping that in mind, it’s no surprise that the Pelicans have to cut their ties to a few players despite wanting them to stay.

Jones, who is averaging 10.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, is unarguably one of the key members of the team who is on the trading block due to their inability to afford his future salary.

As of now, Jones remains a member of the fifth-seeded Pelicans and will hope to help the team improve it’s 25-18 record before potentially beginning a new chapter in his NBA career.
