There have been trade rumors about Brandon Ingram of the New Orleans Pelicans since before the offseason even started.
Yet, none of them have developed into anything substantial and he is still a resident of New Orleans.
Speaking to SpursReport, Pelicans Executive VP David Griffin gave honest insight into the Ingram situation.
He said the team likes Ingram, Ingram likes them, and they are hoping to continue working together.
He also stated that multiple front offices showed interest in Ingram but are incapable of offering a necessary deal because of the NBA’s current salary cap rules.
Griffin thinks other teams want Ingram but they literally cannot create a package for him and everyone’s hands are tied.
Brandon Ingram is “mechanically incapable” to trade given the current salary cap rules, says David Griffin, Executive VP of the New Orleans Pelicans. He expects more #NBA players to become difficult to trade going forward. #Pelicans #Kings #Cavs #Warrors #Grizzlies #Spurs pic.twitter.com/huxRvJ39ix

It is somewhat surprising to see Ingram still with the Pelicans.
Despite what Griffin says about the team’s relationship with him, it seemed like Ingram would be leaving New Orleans this summer.
There are many upsides to signing him and he could be a crucial part of a championship-caliber team.
But the league’s strict salary cap rules mean that other teams aren’t able to pay enough to get Ingram.
Griffin hinted that this won’t be the only time a situation like this arises.
It is becoming harder and harder to make big, blockbuster deals in the NBA.
It’s possible that the days of super teams comprised of multiple A-list All-Stars might be a thing of the past, at least for now.
Because of that, Ingram could remain with the Pelicans for the foreseeable future.
But according to Griffin, the team is very happy about that.
