The New Orleans Pelicans have made a big decision on what they will do with All-Star forward Brandon Ingram.

According to William Guillory of The Athletic, New Orleans is not going to offer Ingram a max extension.

“The Pelicans have publicly expressed their desire to retain Ingram on multiple occasions…However, the financial implications of this decision are significant,” Guillory recently reported (via Hoops Wire).

By most accounts, Ingram has been the team’s most consistent player since he came over from the Lakers in 2019.

Part of that is because All-Star power forward Zion Williamson has struggled to remain healthy too.

Ingram has averaged over 20 PPG in each of the five seasons that he has spent in New Orleans.

Still just 26 years of age, the former Duke Blue Devil is an ascending player and with his 6-8 frame, he could fit in anywhere.

With the Pelicans’ latest decision to not offer him a max extension, perhaps it will soon be time for Ingram to go shopping.

These contract negotiations in every major sport can become contentious and heated from time to time.

If a star player feels slighted or disrespected in any way, they might not want to play for that team anymore.

New Orleans has eclipsed 45 wins just once in the last six years.

To lose their most complete player would be a big blow to their chances in terms of contending for the playoffs.

The team has to find a way to make it right with Ingram so that they can keep him in the building.
