At this point in the season, multiple teams are attempting to secure their place in the playoffs and that means that every win counts.
On Monday night, the New Orleans Pelicans fell, 124-111, to the Phoenix Suns, mostly because of the amazing 52-point performance of Devin Booker.
Following that loss, New Orleans head coach Willie Green spoke about his team’s defense against Booker.
More specifically, he spoke about his team’s lack of defense against him.
“Quite frankly, we were soft guarding him. We had a soft mentality when it came to being physical on him,” Green said, according to Will Guillory.

Booker is never an easy person to guard and there are many nights when he gets hot from all over the court.
But Green is unhappy with how his team approached the Suns star.
He went 19-of-28 from the field and shot 50% from the three-point line too.
It felt that Booker was getting pretty much anything he wanted throughout the game and the Pelicans didn’t have an answer for him.
Teams always have plans for players like Booker because his shooting and passing abilities are some of the best in the league and need to always be considered.
On Monday night, the Pelicans didn’t do enough.
The Suns are attempting to climb out of Play-In contention right now, as they are the seventh seed in the West with a 44-31 record.
The team that is just ahead of them in the standings is, of course, the Pelicans, with a 45-30 record.
This means that they could swap places before the postseason starts, meaning they are both trying hard to win as much as they can.
Right now the Pelicans are slightly ahead of the Suns but will that be the case next week if Booker keeps playing like this?
