Sports medicine has come a long way.

Nonetheless, that also means that other guys were on the wrong end of some not-so-good procedures that wound up taking a massive toll on their careers.

A couple of decades ago, some of the best players in the league struggled after going through knee microfracture surgery, something similar to the Tommy John surgery for baseball players.

In a recent conversation with Andre Iguodala for his Point Forward podcast, Anfernee ‘Penny’ Hardaway admitted that having that surgery was the worst mistake of his career.

“It was the worst decision I had made in my life.”

The Orlando Magic legend claimed that he instantly knew he had made a mistake, revealing that he had trouble getting out of his car after a game.

He felt like his quad got significantly weaker.

Hardaway also admitted that the injury and the surgery took a big toll on the mental side of his game, which is something you cannot recover from.

Hardaway was one of the most explosive and entertaining players to watch in the game, and someone that could’ve and should’ve been ranked way higher in NBA history if the final years of his career had looked a little differently.
