Perrion Winfrey’s Old Statement Resurfaces After Browns Release

Perrion Winfrey’s career with the Cleveland Browns — and maybe even in the National Football League — was cut short long before expected.

The talented defensive tackle is no longer a part of the team after allegedly being involved in an incident with a woman who claims he threatened her with a gun.

While he wasn’t arrested, he’s reportedly under investigation for the incident, and this isn’t even the first time he’s been tangled up in a similar situation.

That’s why Hayden Grove of Cleveland.com resurfaced a statement Winfrey shared after his first legal turmoil, and it obviously didn’t age well.

“This was a wakeup call, and this gave me all of the fuel and all of the fire I needed to come into the league and dominate.

I’m going to come in and work every single day until I can’t work anymore… I’m going to give it my all on and off the field.” – Perrion Winfrey#Browns

Winfried vowed to be better, and if the reports were true, that wasn’t the case.

He had a somewhat promising start to his career, but he’s not that big a name to be tangled up in so many off-field incidents and get away with it.

The Browns are looking to prove their doubters wrong next season, and they cannot afford these kinds of distractions.

Also, they have revamped their defensive unit and will have one of the best defensive-minded guys in the league in Jim Schwartz as their defensive coordinator, and he’s all about business, so there was no way he was going to deal with this.

Winfrey will now head to waivers, and it’s highly unlikely that he’ll gauge any sort of interest until the investigation is done, at the very least.

And even so, he might have a very tough time getting another chance to make an NFL roster after this.
