New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso is already one of the most respected power hitters in baseball.

He has 172 home runs in a span of five seasons in his career, which is both amazing and encouraging for potential future totals.

He is also a cool guy and a Home Run Derby legend.

Alonso has won two editions of the Derby, one in his rookie season (2019) and one in 2021.

It’s important to remember that the wins were consecutive, as there wasn’t a Home Run Derby in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Alonso had a nice gesture before 2023’s edition of the competition.

“Pete Alonso signed all of his Home Run Derby baseballs for last night’s contest before hitting them into the stands,” SNY Mets tweeted.

It makes for a nice souvenir for fans who were able to catch one of them.

It could also make for a valuable piece of memorabilia in the future, particularly if Alonso reaches the Hall of Fame or, say, the 500 or 600-homer club.

Despite his 26 home runs this year (so far) with the Mets, Alonso had a rather disappointing showing in the 2023 event.

He hit 21 balls over the fence, and lost his first-round matchup to local phenom Julio Rodriguez, who had 41.

Still, it’s always pleasant to watch Alonso hit baseballs as hard as he can.

He is very good at hitting them far.

Alonso hopes to keep his power form intact as the Mets try to overcome a mediocre first half.

If they are going to make a playoffs push, Alonso will need to hit many more homers.
