Monty Williams’ first year as head coach of the Detroit Pistons did not go very well.
The team earned an embarrassing 14-68 record and made history for their number of consecutive losses.
Despite that, Williams still has the faith of the team’s front office, and brighter days may be ahead.
Williams is planning for 2024-25 and is making adjustments to his staff.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Fred Vinson is joining Williams’ coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Vinson and Williams go way back, as they worked together years ago in New Orleans.
As noted by Wojnarowski, Vinson is well-regarded for his expertise in shooting, which could definitely help out the young Pistons team.

Even though the Pistons left an awful lot to be desired in 2023-24, there is still reason to believe they could be good in the future.
There is a lot of amazing potential and promise on the roster and they have shown flashes of greatness, although they have been very brief flashes.
With the right sort of coaching and development, the Pistons could be one of the youngest and most exhilarating squads in the NBA in only a few years.
Vinson could be a big part of that development, especially since he is terrific at helping with shooting.
If the Pistons wish to make an impact on the Eastern Conference, they will have to improve every part of their game, including their offense.
Williams has a tough task cut out for him but he knew what he was getting into when he signed a contract with Detroit.
The inclusion of Vinson could help him plot a good path forward and turn the Pistons into a team that actually has fans excited.
