Pistons Adding Former Player To Coaching Staff

The Detroit Pistons know they need to make plenty of adjustments to turn things around.

They already have more than enough talent to start building something special, so the issues might be on the coaching staff.

With that in mind, they’ve brought in a former NBA veteran with plenty of experience as an assistant coach.

According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Pistons have hired Vitaly Potapenko to join JB Bickerstaff’s coaching staff.

Per the report, the former player, who played for four different teams in the league, has spent the past decade on coaching staffs with the Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers.

This is great news for the Pistons, as both the Grizzlies and Cavaliers have found success developing their young players, and that should be of the utmost importance in Michigan right now.

Cade Cunningham has looked the part when he’s been healthy, and he could be as good as advertised, but he needs more help.

Jaden Ivey might not turn out to be a starting-caliber player, or at least not a star, but guys like Ausar Thompson, Jalen Duren, and Ron Holland could help get things on track once and for all after so many years of struggles.

The Pistons were the worst team in the league last season, at least record-wise, and the fact that they agreed to pay Monty Williams so much money not to coach the team anymore speaks volumes about their desperation and desire to turn things around once and for all.
