The Detroit Pistons were perhaps the most disappointing team in the NBA this season.

Coach Monty Williams couldn’t work his magic, and it just looked like the team’s development stalled or even regressed in some cases.

The Pistons have plenty of young talent and a potential generational player in Cade Cunningham, yet they could never get it together.

Now, they’ll have plenty of cap space to try and address some of their biggest areas of need in free agency.

With that in mind, Pistons beat writer James Edwards III reports that the team will prioritize getting Nic Claxton, Malik Monk, and Gary Harris, with the first two being their top targets (via NBA Central).

Detroit Pistons insider @JLEdwardsIII expects the Pistons to ‘heavily’ pursue Nic Claxton and Malik Monk

Edwards stated that Monk would be one of their most sought-after players, given that they have a major need for three-point shooting and off-the-dribble creation.

Monk is coming off a breakout season and was just named Sixth Man of the Year, and he’s expected to draw plenty of interest in free agency, so the Pistons will most likely have to overpay to even stand a chance to get him.

As for Claxton, things could get a little trickier, as he’s reportedly looking for a bigger role on offense and a chance to compete at the highest level, and the Pistons might not be able to offer either.

Also, they have a bit of a logjam with Jalen Duren, James Wiseman, and Isaiah Stewart.

Claxton is an elite defender who could fetch a big payday somewhere else, but we’ve seen crazier things happen in this league.
