The Detroit Pistons are moving on.

In a somewhat shocking turn of events, they will now be in the hunt for a new coach.

According to a report by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pistons have officially fired Monty Williams.

Williams’ first season in charge of the team was far from successful, but he’s now leaving with over $65 million left on his deal.

This was his third coaching stint after five years with the New Orleans Pelicans and four seasons with the Phoenix Suns.

The Pistons won just 14 games last season and spent most of the campaign at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

That’s why new Pistons president Trajan Langdon, who was hired just last month, decided to pull the plug on this experiment.

The Pistons had a promising roster full of young talent, but there were little to no signs of improvement from Dwane Casey’s last year on the job.

Williams had gotten a six-year deal worth a whopping $78.5 million, and he also had a two-year team option that could’ve taken that total to $100 million.

Now, whoever they hire will inherit a roster that includes the likes of Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, and Ausar Thompson.
