The Los Angeles Lakers made the big-time decision to hire former NBA player and ESPN analyst JJ Redick to be the team’s next head coach.
The hire has been met with mixed emotions and opinions from the media.
Fox Sports’ Rachel Nichols recently gave her take on the Lakers’ choice and how they went about the process.
“This was one of the most uneven and messy coaching searches I have seen in a long time,” Nichols said on The Herd.

This was a different kind of take from some in the media that dominated sports talk today, as some pundits took shots at Redick and his credibility.
Others brought possible trade ideas into the light because they don’t believe Redick can coach a player like Anthony Davis.
But with Nichols’ take, she may be onto something.
Plenty of names were considered for this role, including Redick, Monty Williams, Tyronn Lue, Sam Cassell, Jay Wright, James Borrego, etc.
Ultimately, the Lakers went with the younger, more unproven man in Redick.
However, this is a former player who spent 15 years in the NBA and holds the single-season three-point record for multiple franchises.
The former College Player of the Year at Duke knows how to be successful in the NBA, plus he should have LeBron James and Anthony Davis at his disposal.
It is not the greatest head coach signing as of now, but it could turn into it if Redick taps into his high basketball IQ and strong player relationships.
