The 2023 MLB postseason is far from over: we have, so far, three of the four teams that will compete in the Championship Series.

However, there are multiple teams without a manager, and they are already starting to knock on some doors to fill their vacancies.

The New York Mets fired Buck Showalter, Terry Francona retired as the winningest manager in Cleveland Guardians history, and Gabe Kapler is no longer in charge of the San Francisco Giants.

Additionally, Phil Nevin won’t return as the Los Angeles Angels’ skipper.

This means that at least four MLB teams have a managerial opening, and some of them are looking at current Texas Rangers associate manager Will Venable.

Venable, a former MLB outfielder who has started a promising career as a coach/manager, wants to focus on the Rangers for the time being, though.

“NEWS: Will Venable, Rangers associate manager, has been contacted by multiple @MLB teams regarding their managerial openings, but he’s told those clubs that he’s staying with Texas. This is a significant development. Venable, 40, is highly regarded in the industry,” MLB insider Jon Morosi tweeted.

It looks like Venable is staying in Texas not only for as long as the team is alive in the 2023 playoffs, but also beyond that.

Venable is 40, and he knows opportunities will be there later if he keeps learning and evolving.

Right now, he has a golden chance to sharpen his skills under the tutelage of Bruce Bochy, a three-time World Series champion.

Venable finished his playing career in 2016, and has worked as a coach since then for three organizations: the Chicago Cubs (2018–2020), the Boston Red Sox (2021–2022), and the Rangers (2023–present).

His time will come eventually.
