If there’s something that 31 NFL teams have learned about Patrick Mahomes, it is that there’s no way to stop him.
You can only hope to contain him.
Then again, some teams have found some degree of success against him, and the fact that he’s not undefeated proves that his team can be beaten, even if that doesn’t happen often.
That’s why Baltimore Ravens LB Roquan Smith has the utmost confidence in his team.
When asked about their strategy to slow down the reigning Super Bowl MVP, the defensive star claimed that they had to stop the run to make them a one-dimensional team (via Jamison Hensley).
What’s the key to slowing down Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs?

Of course, that makes sense, as the new-look Kansas City Chiefs also have a strong running back corps, and other teams will now have to pick their poison.
Needless to say, daring Mahomes to beat you has rarely worked out for opposing teams, and even if they’re one-dimensional, we’re talking about one of the best and most proficient passers in the game.
Even so, putting them in obvious passing situations could obviously make life somewhat easier for the defense, as they wouldn’t have to worry about the run and would only focus on their pass-catchers.
Still, with the ultimate improviser and the most unpredictable tight end in Travis Kelce, you just never know how or when he’s going to be wide-open for a big gain.
At the end of the day, perhaps the best way to stop Mahomes is to keep him off the field.
