For most college basketball players, March Madness is as far as they’ll go, as they won’t make it to the National Basketball Association.
But as much as some cherish their memories from the NCAA tourney and those epic and unlikely deep postseason runs, others don’t look back to those days with the same kind of nostalgia.
That might as well be the case with two-time NBA champion Ray Allen.
Allen was considered one of the best players in the nation during his days with the UConn Huskies, being named the UPI Player of the Year, a Consensus first-team All-American, Big East Player of the year, USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year, making it to two First-team All-Big East, and even having his no. 34 jersey retired by the program.
However, it wasn’t all good for the legendary sharpshooter.
Recently, Allen told the story of how he and his teammates got everything from their hotel stolen when they traveled to Oakland to play against UCLA.
The Huskies lost the game and, to add injury to insult, found that burglars had emptied their hotel rooms, taking away everything of value.
Allen didn’t even have clothes to get back home, so he had to wear his coach’s sweatshirt on the plane back home.

Notably, that would be Ray Allen’s final memory as a college basketball player before taking his talents to the pros.
There, he would go on to win a couple of NBA championships with 10 All-Star Game appearances, so at least he made more than enough money to buy everything back, but that’s beyond the point.
