For the first time in years, there is legitimate optimism surrounding the Washington Commanders as they spent the offseason retooling the organization both on and off the field.
Adam Peters and Dan Quinn were brought in to serve as Washington’s new general manager and head coach, respectively, while the team also invested the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on LSU Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels.
With a new general manager, head coach, and quarterback on the team, the Commanders have their foundation in place and can now use the next few seasons to organically grow into a playoff contender.
Although brighter days appear to be ahead for a struggling Washington franchise, there are still some things that could be tweaked or improved.
For example, the team name is something that could be revisited in the near future as a recent poll revealed that fans aren’t too thrilled with the team being named the Commanders via Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.
“A new poll shows that 54 percent of D.C.-area sports fans “dislike or hate” the name. Specific to fans of the team, 58 percent don’t like it,” Florio wrote.

For a season, Washington was simply called “The Washington Football Team” before the organization settled on “The Commanders.”
However, it certainly seems that there is more room for creativity and a name change could be in the works in the future.
There are certain logistics and hoops involved in trying to change a team’s name, so any sort of rebrand would have to wait which could very well take years.
