Baseball players often don’t choose who they play for.
Take Cincinnati Reds infielder Jonathan India, for example.
He was drafted fifth overall by the Reds in 2018, and after a couple of seasons in the minors, he made his debut in 2021 and won the NL Rookie of the Year award.
Now, if you ask India’s dad about where he had preferred his son to play, he would tell you the New York Mets without hesitation.
India, in fact, shared a hilarious story about his father’s feelings towards the Mets.
“‘My dad watches the Mets games, and then tapes the @Reds games.’ @JonathanIndia‘s dad is a DIEHARD @Mets fan,” Foul Territory tweeted.

In the short clip, India says that sometimes he asks his dad what he thought about some of his at-bats, but in reality, the elder India hadn’t even watched them because he was busy enjoying (or suffering through?) a Mets game.
It happens sometimes: in the vast majority of cases, major leaguers have been able to reach their goal because their parents love baseball; and if they love baseball, they must be attached to one specific team.
The intensity of said fandom, however, varies from each person and India’s father seems to be near the “high intensity” end of the spectrum.
It’s actually a cool story, and young Jonathan doesn’t seem to mind so much.
Right now, however, Mr. India could potentially find the NL Central-leading Reds more interesting than the fourth-placed Mets.
Still, a true fan doesn’t abandon his team in the tough times, and we are sure he is watching every game for better and for worse.
