The Los Angeles Angels are looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
For a team that has Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, there is no reason for this team not to make a serious playoff push.
But they need more contributors to compete with some of the best teams in the American League.
One player who has stepped up this year is left-handed pitcher Reid Detmers.
The former first-round pick is coming off one of his best starts of the season on Tuesday.
He faced off with the Los Angeles Dodgers and dominated their lineup.
Detmers faced off with Clayton Kershaw in this game, who is a player he idolized when he was younger.
Kershaw gave high praise for Detmers after their matchup.
According to Sam Blum, Kershaw said of Detmers, “He’s got good stuff. I mean he pitched better than I did, honestly.”
Reid Detmers idolized Clayton Kershaw growing up. Tonight, he matched Kershaw’s 7 shutout innings.

Kershaw went on to mention how Detmer gave up fewer hard-hit balls.
Detmers threw seven innings for the game, giving up only two hits and zero runs.
Also, he had eight strikeouts to only one walk.
After Ohtani, the Angels will continue to need Detmers to be a strong number-two starter.
It will be great for MLB if the Angels can get into the postseason.
Seeing Ohtani and Trout in playoff baseball will most certainly increase the viewership.
Look for the Angels to make a few moves to their roster at the trade deadline.
They could benefit from more pitching depth as well as another impact bat.
This recent start from Detmers is certainly a reason for optimism for the Angels.
