Report: AFC Team Could Make ‘Big Swing’ To Move Up In Draft

The Denver Broncos moved on from Russell Wilson earlier in the offseason.

That put them in a complicated position, as they’re in a tight spot, salary cap-wise, and will have to fill most of their roster with cheaper players.

Nonetheless, that doesn’t change the fact that they still need a franchise quarterback.

They’ve been on the hunt for one since Peyton Manning walked away from the game, and they might feel like this NFL Draft gives them a chance to finally get their guy.

With that in mind, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports that they could come out of the left field with a massive offer to climb all the way to the top four (via The Purple Persuasion).

Per @DMRussini, the #Broncos “could make a big swing” with a trade package that includes all-pro CB Patrick Surtain II and other players to draft a top 4 QB

Apparently, they could even include All-Pro CB Patrick Surtain II and other expiring contracts alongside a flurry of draft picks to get a deal done if whoever they like is available in the top four.

Needless to say, it would be very difficult to turn down an offer involving multiple first-round picks and the best cornerback in the game.

On the flip side, that might not be in the Broncos’ best interest.

Of course, they need a quarterback, but jeopardizing their future and giving up multiple picks could only put them in a tougher spot to round out their roster, as Wilson’s dead cap hit will carry over to next season as well.

It’s a big risk, and with GM George Paton perhaps being on the hot seat, he might not want to gamble at this point.
