The Miami Heat fell short again.

This time, despite having a better team with the addition of Terry Rozier, they couldn’t replicate last year’s heroics, falling in the first round of the playoffs to the Boston Celtics.

Of course, missing their best player in Jimmy Butler, and with Rozier also struggling with injuries, there’s only so much they could’ve done.

Now, they face a key offseason in the future, as both Butler and Bam Adebayo are extension-eligible.

With that in mind, Heat beat writer Anthony Chiang reported that the big man is very likely to cash in on a major payday in the offseason:

“As a foundational piece for the Heat who is still a few years away from turning 30, the expectation is that Adebayo will receive a lucrative extension from the organization this offseason to keep him in Miami for years to come,” Chiang said.

The Miami Herald reporter stated that Adebayo is seen as a foundational piece of Pat Riley’s and Erik Spoelstra’s project, so the team won’t hesitate to sign him to a very lucrative extension.

Adebayo is one of the best defensive players in the game, and he’s going to play for Team USA in the Olympics this summer.

He’s been quite durable for most of his career, so it only makes sense that the Heat will look to keep him around for years to come.

While not the flashiest player, he’s made an impact with his grit, grind, toughness, and ability to defend the rim, the pick-and-roll, and even the perimeter against smaller and quicker scorers.

Also, he’s taken a big step forward as a scorer when needed as well, and he’s the kind of player who perfectly embodies Heat culture.
