Until recently, the Cleveland Cavaliers were thought to have a bright future, but after their second-round playoff loss to the Boston Celtics, their immediate future looks uncertain.

There has been lots of speculation that franchise player Donovan Mitchell wants out, and if he will stay, fellow starting guard Darius Garland may ask to be traded.

At the same time, starting center Jarrett Allen and head coach J.B. Bickerstaff could be gone soon.

According to Brian Windhorst, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert will be “significantly” more involved in his team’s offseason decisions, per Evan Sidery.

The duo of Mitchell and Garland, combined with the frontcourt of Allen and 22-year-old Evan Mobley, made it look like championship contention was almost inevitable for Cleveland within a few years.

But Mobley hasn’t shown a lot of improvement since his rookie season two years ago, and Mitchell is one year away from being able to opt-out of his contract in order to become a free agent.

The hot rumor is that Mitchell wants to become a member of the New York Knicks, a team that is suddenly becoming an Eastern Conference power, but other teams will be in the mix if he becomes available on the trade market.

The Cavs could use more muscle and veteran leadership up front, as well as more scoring off the bench, but if they decide to break up the duo of Mitchell and Garland, they will likely be back to rebuilding and figuring out how to merely be a playoff team.
