Frank Vogel was hired as head coach of the Phoenix Suns last summer as a way to bring the team’s new lineup together and work through their postseason problems.
That didn’t happen and now his job is reportedly on the line.
According to Shams Charania, via NBACentral, the Suns are contemplating firing Vogel after a disappointing playoff run, that ended Sunday night at the hands of Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“Sources tell me the Suns will consider a coaching change…I’m told Kevin Durant had real issues with the offense, the way it was ran, him feeling like he was relegated to being in the corner,” Chrania said.

This is very troubling news for Vogel, especially because of Durant’s disappointment.
Durant is the biggest name in Phoenix and the team’s front office will do whatever it takes to keep him happy.
They don’t want him to say goodbye to the team just like he has to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, and Brooklyn Nets.
If Durant is unhappy with Vogel, the head coach will definitely be in the hot seat.
Vogel isn’t the only one who might be sent away in the summer, as the Suns could part ways with several other players to improve the team and give Durant and Devin Booker a better chance in 2024-25.
The problem is that the team is strapped for cash and assets so unless they want to trade away those two stars, they will have to decimate the roster to get anyone substantial in return.
As for Vogel, he will have to prove that he’s willing to alter his approach in the new season.
If he can’t win over Durant’s trust, he might as well pack his bags and start looking for his next job.
