Report: NFL, NFLPA Have Started Discussions About Potential 18-Game Season

The National Football League is the ultimate money-making machine.

While not all countries follow football, the NFL has managed to capitalize on its brand better than any other major sports league on Earth, and it continues to expand and reach new places every single year.

With that in mind, it’s only natural to see the teams and decision-makers looking to squeeze even more money out of the product while they’re at it.

That’s why they’re pushing to add yet another game to the regular season, and discussions are already ongoing.

According to a report by Mark Maske of The Washington Post (via Ari Meirov), the league and the NFLPA have already begun discussions about an 18-game regular season, adding that they could reach an agreement even before the current CBA expires.

Significant: The NFL and NFLPA have started high-level discussions about potentially implementing an 18-game regular season, according to @MarkMaske. NFLPA executive director Lloyd Howell left the door open that an agreement could be reached before the current CBA expires.

Unsurprisingly, multiple players have been overly critical of this move, as football is the most physical game on the planet, and it clearly takes a huge toll on their bodies.

Others have claimed that they would only agree to play an additional game if they also had an additional BYE week and/or the preseason schedule had one fewer game, and both proposals make perfect sense.

Even so, this seems like something imminent.

The players are getting more and more money by the year, and greed could eventually overcome any potential concern they might have about their health or how this could affect their bodies.

More football is coming, and it might happen sooner than most people think.
