The Los Angeles Lakers continue to be in the hunt for a new coach.

Notably, given their history with coaches, many candidates could think twice before embarking on a journey into the unknown with them.

Simply put, they have to make an offer no one can refuse, as the job is quite prestigious and comes with some perks, but also with more demands and scrutiny than most jobs out there.

With that in mind, and thinking of having him there for years to come, the Lakers are reportedly looking to give UConn’s Dan Hurley an offer worth close to $100 million.

That’s plenty of cash for a coach, and more than enough for him to pay the Huskies what he would owe them if he chose to leave the program.

According to Eben Novy-Williams of Sportico, Hurley will have to pay UConn $1.875 million for leaving to join an NBA team.

That figure would rise all the way to $7.5 million if he were to join another college team.

Notable on @Uconn coach Dan Hurley and the @Lakers: His 2023 UConn contract has two different fee structures should he choose to leave.

The Lakers reportedly believe Hurley can replicate his program in the pros, and believe he could do wonders for their player development.

Of course, the nuances, perks, and demands of being an NBA coach are quite different from coaching in college, but LeBron James has already raved about him in the past.

The Lakers want to bridge the post-LeBron James era with the future, and they firmly believe that Hurley is the right man to do so, even if he comes with a steep price.
