The San Francisco 49ers accidentally found a hidden gem in Brock Purdy.

“Mr. Irrelevant” played his way into the headlines in the second half of last season, stepping up big time after they lost both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo because of injuries.

And not even a UCL injury and a long recovery process after surgery have been enough for the Niners to change their minds about him.

According to Niners insider Kate Rooney, HC Kyle Shanahan is more committed to Purdy than to any other quarterback that’s played under him (via Up & Adams).

Moreover, she claims he’s gotten way better this offseason, stating that there are absolutely no signs of any residual issues from his surgery and raving about his arm strength.

Rooney also praised Purdy for being the “most composed 23-year-old she’s ever been around,” stating that everybody within the organization seems to be quite high on him.

Purdy hasn’t missed a step since bursting onto the scene last season, and there shouldn’t be any doubts left about his status as the team’s go-to guy from now on.

The biggest question moving forward will be whether Sam Darnold or Lance will be the backup.

But judging by the Niners’ terrible luck with injuries at the quarterback position, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that they will look to keep both of them.

As for Purdy, his rise to stardom could be worthy of a film if he continues to perform at a high level in his first full season as a starter.
