After getting eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the NBA playoffs last season, the Golden State Warriors headed into an offseason filled with uncertainty about the franchise’s future.
The top priority for the Warriors was trying to re-sign veteran forward Draymond Green, which some believed might be difficult if other teams around the league came in with lucrative offers for the team’s best defensive player.
Fortunately, that didn’t turn out to be the case, with Green signing a four-year deal worth $100 million early into the NBA free agency process, ending any speculation that he’d be playing somewhere else and who they’d bring in to replace him.
Along with re-signing Green, the team also traded Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards in exchange for veteran guard Chris Paul, which was surprising.
Now that the start of the 2023-24 campaign is approaching, there’s some buzz about Klay Thompson’s future with the team as he enters the last year of his contract with the Warriors.
According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, Thompson could make considerably more than Green with a new deal over the next four years, via NBACentral.
Some NBA executives believe Klay Thompson could secure a four-year deal worth $30-35M annually, per @SIChrisMannix

Even though there’s been a lot of speculation of the Big 3 in San Francisco breaking up at some point in the near future, it seems the Warriors and the players have no intention of letting that happen and remain loyal moving forward.
Despite Thompson no longer being the dominant defensive player of old, he can still light up the scoreboard on a nightly basis while being a formidable defender, which is enough for the team to keep him on for another four years if that’s the deal they come to terms on.
