Ever since superstar Anthony Davis was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, there’s been a debate about whether he should play power forward or the center position.

Although it has seemed as though the team has wanted him to anchor the defense in the paint as the center, Davis has always favored playing power forward, with some believing he wants less physicality and more perimeter play in order to help avoid injuries.

With Davis being plagued by injuries throughout the majority of his career in the NBA, it’s a valid concern for the one-time NBA champion, and it appears he wants to play more power forward once again next season.

According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN via NBACentral, Davis desires to play power forward on a more regular basis during the 2023-24 NBA season.

The timing of this is interesting as the team recently signed veteran big man Christian Wood, who can also play both power forward and center.

Along with bringing in Wood, the Lakers signed Jaxson Hayes earlier in the NBA offseason to join the likes of Davis, Jarred Vanderbilt, Rui Hachimura, and LeBron James, who can play the position.

Hayes is the only true center on the team, as that’s the only position he can really play, while Wood is more of a stretch four due to the fact he can spread the floor with his shooting.

It’ll be interesting to see what head coach Darvin Ham and his coaching staff do with Davis and if they try to put him more in the four spot rather than having him play the five next season.
