The marriage between the Chicago Bears and quarterback Justin Fields will be tested this offseason.

Fields hasn’t been very good as a starter since he was drafted in 2021 and the Bears could be in a position to draft a quarterback this spring.

There is still time, though, for Fields to turn things around in Chicago, and the team will reportedly take a long and hard look at everything Fields has done since his career began, according to NFL Network’s Stacey Dales.

“What the Bears are doing in terms of looking at Justin Fields is the total body of work over three years,” Dales said. “The injuries have been there – [but] aside from those, what has the performance looked like that is linked to his 7-26 starting record in the NFL?”

“Can that guy win championships?” Dales added.

As Dales said, Fields’ ability to play mistake-free football will be one of the top metrics the team looks at in his evaluation.

Fields has turned the ball over 17 times in the fourth quarter alone – a number that leads the league since 2021.

Chicago added talent around him this season with receiver D.J. Moore and running back Roschon Johnson, but that hasn’t been enough to elevate Fields’ game too far above his standard production.

Fields’ stats are up, though: His completion percentage is above 61 percent for the first time in his career, his yards per game are up to 198.4 and he only has six interceptions on the year.

These are all encouraging improvements, but it may not be enough to save his job with prospects like USC’s Caleb Williams and North Carolina’s Drake Maye in sight this spring.
