The Dallas Cowboys quickly exited the NFL playoffs this year at the hands of the Green Bay Packers.
The 48-32 final result wasn’t nearly as close as the score suggested after Green Bay went up 27-7 at halftime and led 48-16 heading into the fourth quarter.
There will be a lot of blame thrown around as to why the No. 2 seed in the NFC lost so easily to the No. 7 seed, but ESPN analyst and former NFL head coach Rex Ryan refused to put all the responsibility for the loss on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
“Don’t you dare blame Dak Prescott for this game,” Ryan said. “The defense stunk. … Why’d they lose? Why’d they look like crap? Why’d they get out-coached? I don’t know. But point to the defense. Period.”

The defense’s inability to stop the Packers offense led by quarterback Jordan Love through the air and running back Aaron Jones on the ground cannot be ignored as a huge reason why the team struggled.
The Dallas defense, which ranked among the best in the NFL heading into the playoffs, put their offense in the position to where they played with abject urgency rather than a measured approached.
Prescott’s two first-half interceptions – one of which was returned for a touchdown – certainly made things worse for Dallas, but he and the Cowboys climbed back to within two scores by the end of the game, although it was a little too late for mount an actual comeback.
There will be a lot of questions as to what went wrong in Dallas – and likely a lot of changes for the Cowboys this offseason.
