The Houston Rockets haven’t been very good since James Harden left.
But they’ve made the most of every single asset they’ve gotten ever since, putting together a young roster stacked with talent that might be ready to compete sooner than most people expect.
Add Ime Udoka and a pair of veterans like Dillon Brooks and Fred VanVleet to that mix, and the Rockets might be ready to take a leap next season, at least according to Richard Jefferson.
In the latest edition of Road Trippin’, the former NBA champion made a case for the Rockets not being as bad as some people think, stating that they have all this young talent and that he expects a better season from Jabari Smith Jr. in his second year in the league.
He also argued that they now have a guy they can trust to get stops on a nightly basis in Dillon Brooks.
Antics aside, and regardless of how bad he looked in the playoffs, Brooks has been a very good defender for most of his career, and he’ll have a huge chip on his shoulder next season, so this makes sense.
Also, Udoka could finally put Smith in a position to succeed after being with Stephen Silas, and his upside is sky-high.
Amen Thompson is also one of the most promising players in the league, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and he could take plenty of pressure away from Jalen Green when they share the court.
They likely won’t make the playoffs, but the Rockets will finally take a step in the right direction.
