NBA group chats, social media accounts, shows, and even players have been on fire lately with their takes on the Stephen Curry vs. Magic Johnson debate.

Curry started it all when he claimed to be the greatest point guard of all time, putting himself and Magic in that conversation.

Some people have agreed with Steph’s assessment, while others — particularly old-school fans and players — respectfully disagree.

That seems to be the case with Richard Jefferson, who recently said on his Road Trippin’ podcast that he believes the gap between Curry and Johnson is wider than the one that existed between Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant (via ClutchPoints).

Since Kobe Bryant was the 2nd coming of Michael Jordan, the same cannot be said between Steph Curry and Magic Johnson.

Of course, people always said that Kobe was the second coming of Jordan, and the resemblance in their games was spine-chilling.

Kobe molded his game to Jordan’s, which is most definitely not what happened in Steph’s case.

In terms of being a true point guard, there’s no denying that Johnson would hold the edge in that aspect, as he was always a pass-first kind of guy, as opposed to Curry, who’s a pure scorer and the greatest shooter of all time.

Truth be told, there are pretty much no similarities between their games, so Jefferson’s point makes plenty of sense if that’s what he’s talking about.

Now, if he’s talking about impact, talent, influence, or simply skill, then it’s hard to put a lot of players ahead of the Golden State Warriors superstar, and that includes even the legendary and unique Magic Johnson.
