With the start of the Olympics right around the corner for Team USA, there’s been a lot of debate about Steve Kerr’s roster and which players among the star-studded squad should be the first five on the basketball floor to start games in Paris, France, later this month.
Some players seem to be pretty obvious choices, like LeBron James and Kevin Durant, if he’s able to get healthy, but then there are quite a few other spots to address and to determine what the team needs to be successful on the international stage this summer.
On Monday, the Americans got back to work on the basketball floor as they took on Australia in Abu Dabi in one of the final few exhibition games left on Kerr’s squad’s schedule.
Although Team USA was able to come out on top in the end, the score was much closer than anyone anticipated, as the Australians could’ve very well won the game, as it was a two-possession contest down the stretch.
With some questions still to be answered about this Team USA squad and which five players should be starting games, former NBA player Richard Jefferson of ESPN chimed in with who he believes should be the starters moving forward via ClutchPoints.

Jefferson went with James, Durant, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid, which is a gigantic lineup with no guards to speak of, even though there are a few ballhandlers in there.
The one big omission in this lineup is superstar guard Stephen Curry, who provides shooting and someone who can initiate the offense outside of James, but if the size is what the team is going for, then this would be the five that need to be on the floor.
