14 years ago, in 2010, Joe Lacob bought the Golden State Warriors for a then-record $450 million.

Now, they’re the second-most valuable sports franchise on Earth at a whopping $8.28 billion, trailing only the Dallas Cowboys.

That kind of turnaround doesn’t happen overnight, and while Stephen Curry should get plenty of credit, Klay Thompson also played a massive role in that.

That’s why Richard Jefferson believes he has every right to be mad at the franchise.

Talking on NBA on ESPN, the former player claimed that he knew how upset Thompson had been with the organization since Christmas day, stating that Thompson felt underappreciated.

“[Klay] turned their franchise around. That franchise is worth billions of dollars not just because of Stephen Curry. It’s also because of Klay.” @Rjeff24 says Klay Thompson had a right to be mad with the Warriors during his contract negotiations pic.twitter.com/IqlVD0BnKs

Granted, some might say that the Warriors gave him a big contract right after he tore his ACL, but it’s not like they had a choice, as any other team in the league would’ve given him a max contract regardless of his injury.

The Warriors were always better because of him.

He drew plenty of defensive attention even when his shot wasn’t falling.

He’s not responsible for them taking James Wiseman in the NBA Draft, nor is he to blame for Jordan Poole’s max contract or the Chris Paul trade.

Some claim that the Warriors only got two second-round picks out of Klay Thompson, but that’s not true.

They also won four championships.
