The Los Angeles Lakers made another solid move this week after the team had been linked to veteran big man Christian Wood for quite some time.
On Wednesday, the team announced that they have officially signed Wood to a contract, which gives the team another versatile big along with Anthony Davis and Jaxson Hayes, making the Lakers one of the deepest teams in the league ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Before signing Wood this week, the Lakers made a lot of noise over the course of the summer by avoiding superstar talent like Kyrie Irving and seemingly making all the right moves, bringing in players to address certain areas of need and re-signing key players like Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura.
Although Wood isn’t considered to be a game-changing signing for the Lakers, as it is uncertain how much of a role he’ll have on the team that was pretty much set before he signed, Richard Sherman of compared the move to the team bringing in Pau Gasol, via “Undisputed” this week.

Comparing Wood to a Hall of Famer who helped the Lakers win two titles while playing alongside Kobe Bryant is a bit of a stretch, to say the least.
Although Wood is a solid signing and does make the Lakers that much deeper in the frontcourt, it almost certainly won’t have the same impact as when the team brought in Gasol to be Bryant’s No. 2 on the squad.
As for Sherman being shocked that the Lakers got Wood at this price, there’s a significant drop-off defensively, which didn’t even get mentioned, along with the fact he hasn’t been much of a team player throughout his career.
