They say all publicity is good publicity, but that’s not always true, and especially not in the National Football League.
Notably, Richie Incognito, who experienced his fair share of controversy during his playing days and beyond, can attest to that.
In a recent sit-down with New England Patriots legend Julian Edelman, the renowned offensive lineman shared the story of how he made the Sports Illustrated cover.
He talked about some epic battles he used to have with the legendary Vince Wilfork, one of which ended up with him on the ground and with Wilfork making the center of the cover (via Games with Names).

He clearly wasn’t happy to see himself on the cover flopping around, but that’s just the way it is.
For most of Incognito’s playing days with the Miami Dolphins, the Patriots ruled the AFC East Division.
Bill Belichick’s defense was the best in the game, and guys like Wilfork were simply ruthless.
There’s a lot to say about Tom Brady and the Patriots’ legendary offensive drives to win multiple Super Bowls, and rightfully so.
Then again, for years, some fans debated if the defense was the true unsung hero in all those Super Bowl runs.
And while history eventually proved that Brady wasn’t a byproduct of Belichick’s greatness or coaching, as some stated, guys like Richie Incognito can attest and talk about how incredibly physical and dominant they were back in the day.
He even has an issue of Sports Illustrated to remember it until the end of time.
