NBA legend Rick Barry definitely got paid lots of money during his career in the league.
But the contracts that he is seeing now are blowing his mind, and not in a good way.
Sitting down with Joy De’Angela, via NBACentral, Barry talked about Jaylen Brown’s massive contract extension.
He didn’t hold back.
He said that Brown’s five-year, $304 million dollar contract is hard for him to believe, and critiqued the Celtics star’s showing in the playoffs.
“His average in the playoffs is 18.5 points a game. I mean, 18.5 points a game and he’s making $69 million in the last year of his contract,” Barry said, shocked.
“18.5 points a game, that’s nothing,” he added.

To be fair, Brown averaged 22.7 points a game in the 2022-23 postseason.
Barry affirmed that he liked Brown as a player but feels that the salary he earned is just too much.
His reasoning is that Brown still has a lot to work on with his game.
Barry claims that Brown turns the ball over too much and “tries to force things” on the court.
While he thinks Brown is a good player, he doesn’t believe he’s worth the enormous contract that he just signed.
Barry isn’t the only one whose jaw dropped when he saw Brown’s new deal.
It is the richest contract in NBA history and it shocked many.
While many, like Barry, are going to rightly criticize Brown’s game, they also need to get ready for many more extensions like this.
There will be multiple players in the upcoming future who will make what Brown just did.
The price tag for NBA stars is only going up.
There is no doubt that in just a few months, Brown’s monster contract will be eclipsed by another.
