Every single year around this time during the NFL offseason, the rules of the game can be changed or altered due to whatever transpired during the season or NFL playoffs, or if a team wants something reviewed.
Recently, the “tush push” was taken into consideration to be banned by the league, with every other team in the league besides the Philadelphia Eagles struggling to figure out how to use the play efficiently.
Although some teams, players, and coaches have openly expressed their gripes about the “tush push” being used in the NFL, the league has decided that there’s nothing wrong with the play and that other teams will have to adapt.
Along with choosing to keep the “tush push” in the game, the league has banned the hip-drop tackle, which once again prioritizes the health of offensive players in the league, making it that much harder for defensive players to do their job.
Former NFL star Robert Griffin III believes this is a step in the wrong direction for the league.
“I understand what the NFL is trying to do by making the game safer, but what they’re really doing is making it unsafe for defenders,” Griffin said. “How is a guy supposed to tackle an offensive guy from behind now?”
Banning the hip-drop tackle is yet another rule change that makes it nearly impossible for defenders to play defense anymore. The NFL needs less penalties not more. The NFL needs less fines not more. At this point, we might as well throw flags on them. pic.twitter.com/CEwx0Afc3d

At this point in time, it seems as though opposing defenses will have no idea how to play defense against offenses that have all the rules in their favor.
As Griffin points out, it’s important to address the safety of the game, but it could get to the point where it could really hurt the game and make it virtually unwatchable.
