The Baltimore Ravens ascended to being the No. 1 team in the AFC after a big season from the offense and quarterback Lamar Jackson.
The Ravens finished with the fourth-best scoring offense and Jackson finished with nearly 4,500 scrimmage yards under new offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
But the secret to the success wasn’t anything specific that Monken or Jackson did, according to former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III.
The team’s decision to sign free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and draft Zay Flowers in the first round is what really helped the Ravens go from a good offense to a great one.
“Making it a priority to add Flowers and OBJ in Monken’s system was GENIUS,” Griffin posted. “… They are known separators downfield and give this O more go.”
The @Ravens making it a priority to add Flowers and OBJ in Monken’s system was GENIUS. Lamar Jackson has always loved intermediate throws (10-19 air yards) and is 2nd in completion % with 11 TDs and 0 int this year. They are known separators downfield and give this O more go.

Flowers quickly became one of Jackson’s top targets – especially after tight end Mark Andrews suffered what looked like a season-ending ankle injury (although he reportedly could come back for the divisional round or at least later in the postseason) – and Beckham had some huge performances where he returned to his vintage game-breaking form.
This is the best collection of skill position players Jackson has had during his tenure as the Ravens quarterback, and it’s a big reason why the Ravens were able to put up big points against some of the best defenses in the NFL this season.
Now, Baltimore takes on a Houston Texans defense that limited the Cleveland Browns to just 14 points a week ago.
