The New York Jets lacked a true WR2 last season.

They hoped Allen Lazard would be that man, but that wasn’t the case.

Shortly after signing a four-year deal worth a whopping $44 million, he wasn’t much of a factor on offense, hauling in 23 receptions for 311 yards and one touchdown.

Needless to say, that was far below expectations, and he was one of the most talked-about players entering the offseason.

Fortunately for the fans, it seems like he’s ready to bounce back in 2024.

When asked about him, HC Robert Saleh admitted that Lazard didn’t live up to the hype, but he added that it wouldn’t be the first time a free agent rises to the occasion after disappointing early (via Paul Andrew Esden Jr).

#Jets HC Robert Saleh revealed that he has seen a different Allen Lazard this offseason, ‘a renewed mindset.’

Saleh raved about Lazard’s work ethic, calling him a second coach on the field, and praised him for showing up in tremendous shape and with a determination to get better.

Of course, not to make up any excuses for him or his lack of production, but it’s not like the Jets’ quarterback situation was any good last season, with Aaron Rodgers staying on the field for a grand total of four snaps.

Rodgers and Lazard had strong chemistry when they played together for the Green Bay Packers.

Just two years ago, they were able to connect for 60 receptions for 788 yards and six touchdowns.

Now, with Rodgers back to full strength and him determined to silence the doubters, he could be in for a big bounce-back in 2024, even with Mike Williams and Malachi Corley also around.
