Heading into the 2023 NBA Draft, all the buzz was about French phenom Victor Wembanyama and G League Ignite star Scoot Henderson and where they’d end up when the dust settled.

Ultimately, Wembanyama, as expected, was taken No. 1 overall by the San Antonio Spurs to be the first potential superstar for the team since Tim Duncan.

As for Henderson, things got interesting leading up to the No. 2 overall selection, which turned out to be Brandon Miller, who the Charlotte Hornets took.

Henderson was then taken at No. 3 overall by the Portland Trail Blazers, and after that, there’s no telling where players would go, even though it was a deep draft.

Cam Whitmore was expected to be a high pick, if not at least a lottery pick, but that didn’t happen as he had to wait until the Houston Rockets took him at No. 20, as he became the player that dropped the furthest on draft day.

Whitmore somewhat made up for being overlooked in the draft, as he played exceptionally well in Las Vegas and was named NBA Summer League MVP, and now he believes he can win NBA Rookie of the Year, as he told Malika Andrews via NBA on ESPN.

With so many talented young players in Houston, it’ll be interesting to see how much playing time Whitmore gets on the Rockets right out of the gate, as there could be a player or two ahead of him.

However, the Villanova product is as confident as any player in this draft class, which bodes well for him to immediately make an impression in Houston and potentially win Rookie of the Year.
