The NFL is one of the most innovative professional sports leagues in the world, as the ridiculously popular sport always finds new ways for its fans to absorb its content, especially in an ever-changing media world.

This year, the NFL tried something a bit different by putting some important games on the streaming service Peacock, meaning avid fans of the sport had to pay to see certain games.

This was an experiment for the league, which appears to have worked, according to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, via Awful Announcing.

“You have to understand where the media landscape is going. It’s changing faster and deeper. We still have over 90% of our games on free television. No other sport comes close to that,” Goodell said.

Tracy Wolfson then asked about the possibility of a Super Bowl being streaming-only in the future.

With the NFL getting a taste of some extra revenue from Peacock and their ongoing experiment, which seems to have worked on Amazon’s streaming service, there’s no doubt that Goodell and the league will continue to explore these avenues to maximize profits.

It’ll be interesting to see what the next move might be for the NFL in their attempts to milk fans for a little bit more money next season and beyond.

Fortunately, Goodell let it be known that the Super Bowl won’t be a streaming-only game in the near future, which is good news for anyone who loves Super Bowl Sunday and doesn’t want to pay extra to see it on an annual basis.

As many NFL fans know, Goodell isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, given how much he gets paid annually and how much the owners love having him run the show.
