The NFL officially has a Commissioner through 2027.
Roger Goodell has signed a new extension that’ll prolong his reign atop of the league.
He’s been in charge of the NFL since 2006, and this will be his fourth contract extension.
However, his passion for the job remains the same, as he recently stated that he was “honored” to continue doing this job (via Mike Garafolo).

Goodell stated that nothing has changed despite him getting a new lucrative contract, adding that he will continue to take the same approach to his day-to-day job.
Moreover, he was non-committal when asked about whether this was his final contract extension or if he’ll continue to pursue another deal in the future, stating that he’s only made plans for the next three years.
The NFL has thrived financially since Goodell got the nod.
From lucrative TV rights deals worth over $100 billion to teams becoming ten times more valuable over the past two decades, one could state that his tenure in charge of the league has been a major success.
Of course, he also has his fair share of detractors.
The players believe his efforts to revamp player safety have been insufficient, especially when it comes to his reluctance to ban turf from stadiums.
Some fans also feel like he’s watered down the product and the league by putting some offense-friendly rules in place, stating that the game has lost some of its physicality in favor of show business.
Perhaps the truth about his job in charge is somewhere in between.
