The Chicago Bears might have themselves a future star in No. 9 overall draft pick Rome Odunze.

The former All-American wide receiver at Washington has the talent and hunger to possibly be a big-time player in the Windy City for a long time.

Recently, he shared his goals for his rookie season in front of the Chicago media, per ProFootballTalk.

“That rookie season record, I’m absolutely chasing that,” Odunze said.

If Odunze breaks the NFL rookie receiving record, that would be an insane way to kick off his career, especially in Chicago.

The rookie receiving record was set by Rams All-Pro wide receiver Puka Nacua last season.

In fact, Nacua set the NFL rookie record in both receptions (105) and receiving yards (1,486).

It will be hard for Odunze to put up those numbers for a few reasons.

First off, it is his first year in the NFL, and that itself is sometimes daunting for a lot of players.

Next, he is playing for a Bears franchise that doesn’t necessarily have the richest offensive history.

After all, Johnny Morris is still the team’s all-time leading receiver (he ended his Bears career in 1967 with 5,059 yards).

Third, he is a part of a very talented wide receiver group.

The team traded for six-time Pro Bowl receiver Keenan Allen earlier this offseason, and DJ Moore is already a multi-time 1,000-yard receiver.

It will be tough for him to get the ball all the time.

But in the end, the Bears are the true winners because of the impressive arsenal that they have surrounded No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams with.
