After two disappointing seasons with the Denver Broncos following a blockbuster trade by the Seattle Seahawks in 2022, one-time Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson has another chance at a fresh start after signing with the quarterback-needy Pittsburgh Steelers this NFL offseason.

Although it appeared that Wilson would get a fresh start with a storied franchise eager to get back to title-contending status, the Steelers made a trade with the Chicago Bears to acquire quarterback Justin Fields, creating a quarterback controversy in Pittsburgh during training camp.

As if that wasn’t bad enough for a veteran who seems to be on the downside of his career, the veteran quarterback has been dealing with a calf issue, resulting in the Steelers coaching staff getting a look at Fields with the first team.

Despite the quarterback controversy in Pittsburgh, Wilson is saying all the right things and trying to win over the coaching staff and the avid Steelers fan base, which is no easy task.

Wilson was recently asked what it is like working with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and how well he’s picking up a new offense in Pittsburgh up to this point via SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“He’s got a tenacity to him that I love,” Wilson said.

With Wilson showing some regression in Denver, he’ll have a lot to prove in Pittsburgh in order to convince longtime head coach Mike Tomlin and his coaching staff that he’s the right man for the job under center.

It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out for the Steelers and whether this team can turn the corner during the 2024 campaign.
